Have you ever wanted something so badly that you have butterflies in your stomach? I had an experience like this once that I will never forget. My old reading teacher Mr. Dziowgo signed my whole class up for the Rotary Club’s writing essay contest about their four way test. The paper had to be over five hundred words long, and it took me two weeks to finish the paper. Finally we sent them in.
We waited so long to hear back from the Rotary Club. It was starting to grow uninteresting, and blasé as the months went by. All of a sudden one day my teacher was in such a happy, go lucky mood when he came into the room. I started to think that he had heard from them, but he didn’t. He was just so happy because we were doing a play in reading class. Then about a month later he had the same excited attitude.
I was so surprised when they announced it on the intercom. I had been awarded first place, and I didn't breathe for a little while! When everyone started saying good job, I hadn't even caught my breath yet.
The contest officials said I had to read it aloud to the Rotary Club in Holt County. I almost passed out when I read it aloud. My mom made me dress up in a white dress that had little white fuzz balls on it. If you know me, you would know I hate dresses. So I was pretty miserable. When I got done everyone clapped and I realized that it wasn't so bad after all.
So I now know that I shouldn't be scared of doing something like this. Because I won so I realized that I actually enjoy things like this. Now I know that I won’t be scared of competitions like this anymore. So I read those words loud and clear. I was so proud of myself and I will be in the future whenever I win things.
